On May 27, 2025, VIVIUS participated in the annual conference of the Plattform Land in Truden. Under the theme “Rethinking Renovation—Strengthening Regional Cycles,” participants discussed how renovation projects in rural areas can combine climate protection, regional economic cycles, and new land-use opportunities.
Sustainable renovation is seen as a key solution to challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and demographic shifts. Instead of demolition and new construction, a shift in thinking is needed: existing buildings should be utilized as a resource and transformed into modern living, working, and educational spaces.
The focus was on regional cycles—from eco-friendly building materials to artisanal skills and local value creation. In her keynote address, Christine Pfeifer, president of VIVIUS, emphasized the importance of collaboration between planning, the skilled trades, politics, and education.
The conference clearly demonstrated that sustainable renovation is much more than just a construction project: It creates affordable housing, strengthens the regional economy, and can serve as a driving force for the future of rural areas.
